Two weeks before one of our women’s retreats, our venue cancelled on us and half our volunteer team dropped out due to conflicting schedules the same week. Every practical indicator said we should postpone.

We did not postpone. We prayed, made some frantic phone calls, and ended up hosting a smaller, scrappier version of the retreat in a member’s backyard instead of the retreat center we had planned. It remains, by a wide margin, one of the most spiritually rich weekends our ministry has ever had. Zechariah’s reminder that it is “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6) was not just a nice verse for the program that year. It was the literal explanation for how that weekend worked at all.
