Daniel is active in Christian community — his own writing, his involvement with Legendarios, his service to CBA Orlando. Early in our marriage, I sometimes felt myself defaulting to being introduced only in relation to his work, as though my own calling to women’s ministry and to Desafío Mamá was a secondary detail.
The Proverbs 31 woman is not described as an accessory to her husband’s reputation; she has her own trade, her own household to manage, her own reputation earned through her own labor (Proverbs 31:10-12, 24). I have had to learn, deliberately, to hold both truths at once: I am proud to be Daniel’s wife, and I am also fully my own person with a calling that is genuinely mine, not borrowed from his.
